Portrait of the Artist as an Old Man

COMING SOON…

Roughneck. Oilman. Wildcatter. Artist? Filmmaker Logan turns the camera on his father, Jim Alexander, who happily defies conventional definition in this intimate peek into the artist’s life, exploring the utility of art and the wisdom that comes with growing older.

In 1969, Jimmy Alexander dropped out of art school to make a living as a roughneck in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma. After fifty years in the oil and gas business, the newly retired Jimmy was goaded into returning to the brush by his wife, Roxie. As the COVID-19 pandemic bound us to our homes, he discovered a newfound appreciation for his long-lost love of painting. A quirky documentary by way of home video, Portrait of the Artist as an Old Man is an introspective observation of how our true passions never leave us, but continue to burn until we can return to them.
